Slash red tape to expand NSW workforce - what a great idea!

SydneyTalent congratulates the NSW Business Chamber on its 10 Big Ideas launched in today.  CEO Anne Moore gave a standing ovation to Big Idea #2 which spotlights supporting business capacity to increase employment opportunities in NSW.

“NSW is competing in a global marketplace and red tape is strangling our ability to expand the employment opportunities and our ability to be innovative in the way we work.

“Business is acutely aware of the return of the post GFC skills shortage in key sectors such as IT, engineering and health.  Red tape is a huge issue – especially if businesses want to create part-time, project, casual or job-share positions.  These options make it easier for business to create jobs and helps them attract a wider field of candidates.

“Flexible job structures also make it easier for senior people to keep working while studying, undertaking caring responsibilities or working in voluntary roles.

“Another issue is that while payroll tax can be exempted from employees participating in entry level training programs, it is still applied at the full rate to employees who might be developing some of the highest skills in the country, or across the globe through post-graduate study or research,” Moore explained.

SydneyTalent also supports Big Idea #10, the commitment to work readiness for all HSC students in NSW. The next generation of employees, whether tertiary educated or vocationally trained, need appropriate education and training to meet the demands of their working lives.

“SydneyTalent firmly supports practical and pragmatic initiatives that equip all young people in NSW with work readiness skills,” concluded Moore.
