Indigenous Students

The University of Sydney has a proud history and relationship with the Indigenous Australian community. The university’s commitment in building equal employment partnerships with both non-Indigenous and Indigenous Australians is managed through the university’s pre-graduate placement initiative, SydneyTalent. At SydneyTalent we work together to create a cultural environment where all university students have the opportunity to be placed in equal employment during their studies.

SydneyTalent’s network includes partnering with Indigenous Jobs Australia (IJA) to promote employment opportunities for all registered students. SydneyTalent’s partnership with IJA includes the provision of training on a pro bono basis to participating IJA employers within the greater Sydney footprint, and promotion of the website to Indigenous job seekers within the University of Sydney.

Indigenous Jobs Australia

Indigenous Jobs Australia (IJA) is a national employment website dedicated specifically to connecting Indigenous Australian job seekers with employers searching for Indigenous employees.

The IJA job board was developed by the Australian Indigenous Chamber of Commerce and Fairfax Media and is powered by MyCareer. Indigenous candidates have access to employers who are committed to Indigenous employment, with the goal of improving employment outcomes.

By joining with key Indigenous and employment organizations, such as the Aboriginal Employment Strategy (AES) and the Australian Employment Covenant (AEC), the IJA site provides Indigenous Australians with a platform to access information resources as well as optimising employment opportunities.

The site benefits employers and employees alike, as no other internet jobs board caters exclusively to Indigenous job seekers.

SydneyTalent has formed a partnership with IJA which includes the provision of training on a pro bono basis to participating IJA employers within the greater Sydney footprint, and promotion of the website to Indigenous job seekers within the University of Sydney.
