Case study: SydneyTalent and ICT

The University of Sydney's Information and Communications Technology (ICT) group was one of SydneyTalent's first clients.

The relationship between ICT and Sydney Talent was established in October 2007 and has since rapidly expanded to include over 25 student employees who now support many of the University's core teaching, research and professional services units.

The success of the ICT SydneyTalent Student Employee program has resulted in several of the student employees becoming permanent staff members.

Learning and development

SydneyTalent takes a proactive approach to equipping future graduates for immediately useful employment, offering a range of learning and development initiatives which complement the practical skills learned on the job.

SydneyTalent employees thus offer capability, acumen and motivation far beyond the average employee.

WorkReady Competencies™

SydneyTalent has defined twelve sets of competencies that describe effective, desirable behaviour for success in all facets of life including employment.

Derived from a range of sources including the  University of Sydney’s Generic Graduate Attributes and the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) Employability Skills framework, this model provides a common language for identifying strengths and development needs, establishing performance criteria and evaluating performance in the workplace.

Easy to understand, observe and measure, the WorkReady Competencies™ are the foundation for all of our learning and development initiatives.

WorkReady Orientation™

SydneyTalent's WorkReady Orientation™ program gives SydneyTalent employees the practical skills they need to immediately contribute in the workplace. SydneyTalent employees are fully versed in OH&S and other basic workplace practices such as bullying prevention, sexual harassment, and privacy, ensuring legal compliance before they walk through your door.

WorkReady Workshops

SydneyTalent offers a range of interactive, group-based training workshops throughout the year, which focus primarily on developing key employability skills for successful performance in industry.

Specifically, the workshops are designed to help students and recent graduates –

  • Increase self awareness of personal strengths and areas for development
  • Gain a clear understanding of what is expected of them in the workplace
  • Further develop pragmatic employability skills that can be immediately applied across a broad range of contexts, including the workplace

Three different WorkReady workshop programs have been devised to suit various levels of capability and experience:

  1. WorkReady Foundations™ (WRF)
  2. WorkReady Essentials™ (WRE)
  3. WorkReady Specialist™ (WRS)

If you are interested in learning more about these training programs or would like SydneyTalent to deliver a standard or customised version of these workshops within your organisation please contact SydneyTalent Learning and Development.

WorkPlace Performance Development™

SydneyTalent’s performance development program has been designed to complement the mentoring and supervision usually received in the workplace, and support students and clients in defining and achieving key business and personal development goals.
