Each of the 3 programs listed below include a range of interactive group-based workshops which focus primarily on developing key employability skills for successful performance in industry.
Our workshops are available to all registered students. Before booking please consider the following information to ensure you book in for workshops which are best suited to your level of industry experience, needs or interests.

SUMMER HOLIDAY INTENSIVE PROGRAM
3 Day Intensive Program - WorkReady Essentials
The Intensive program is a combined suite of the 5 WorkReady Essentials workshops in 3 days. The course covers a range of essential workplace skills that employers are looking for in the graduates they hire – interpersonal communication skills, teamwork, planning and organisation, networking and presentation, and self awareness for your own longer term life planning. Days 1 and 2 run from 9am-5pm, and Day 3 until midday. You must attend all 3 days of the program and complete all 5 workshops. A certificate is provided at the end of the course

WorkReady Foundations™
WRF Workshop - Customer Service (3 hours)
This workshop aims to enhance understanding of what it means to create a positive and memorable customer experience, not only so the customers has a great experience but so they keep coming back. At the end of this workshop you will -
- Be aware of strategies for building key ingredients to excellent customer service
- Make a positive and memorable first impression in person and over the phone
- Identify the differences between average and proactive customer service
- Be familiar with and have practised active listening skills and effective questioning techniques
- Know how to use framing techniques to deliver effective messages
- Be aware of strategies for managing challenging situations in customer service
WRF Workshop - Contributing to your team (1.5 hours)
This workshop aims to develop behaviours which are important for understanding and optimising your individual contribution to your team across various contexts. At the end of this workshop you will:
- Have a deeper understanding of the type of roles you and others typically prefer to play within a team
- Identify different team role types for effective allocation of tasks and identification of possible issues
WRF Workshop – Working in a global community: cultural awareness (2 hours)
This workshop aims to develop strategies and behaviours to transition effectively into Australian corporate culture through increasing awareness of cultural values, beliefs and their impact on our perceptions and interactions with others. At the end of this workshop, you will have enhanced cultural awareness through:
- Improving awareness of what leads us to create stereotypes
- Learning strategies to minimise stereotyping and biases
- Understanding best practice workplace behaviour in the Australian context

WorkReady Essentials™
We recommend that all SydneyTalent registered students complete WorkReady EssentialsTM, five face-to-face interactive training workshops focusing on the following topics and WorkReady Competencies™:

Participation in these workshops ensures all SydneyTalent registered students develop the practical life and employability skills identified by society and industry as key to success. For SydneyTalent employees who have not had previous exposure to industry, the WorkReady Essentials professional development program covers valuable skills that will place them in good stead for success in their placement. Workshops are offered in a flexible schedule on an ongoing basis throughout the year.
Following their attendance at all five workshops, students will receive a SydneyTalent certificate of completion which can be added to their resumé portfolio. Their completion of this program will give students a competitive edge in industry when being considered for other SydneyTalent placements and also graduate positions.
Workshop objectives and benefits
Workshop 1 – Interpersonal communication in the workplace
This workshop aims to develop students interpersonal communication skills in order to build productive and fruitful working relationships across a range of contexts. At the end of this workshop, they will –
- Be aware of their verbal and non verbal behaviours
- Know how to actively listen and demonstrate understanding in conversation
- Identify communication barriers and use assertive behaviour to resolve issues
- Be able to adapt their communication style to a range of contexts
- Know how to implement effective interpersonal communication in a work setting
Workshop 2 - Strategies for Team Effectiveness
This workshop aims to help students to understand their own and others preferred ways of working in a team as well as techniques for working together effectively and transitioning through stages of team development. At the end of this workshop they will –
- Have a deeper understanding of themselves and their preferred style and behaviour in a team
- Be able to identify different team role types for effective allocation of tasks and identification of possible issues
- Develop a better understanding of team dynamics, processes and stages of team development
- Become more skilled in managing transitions through the development stages
Workshop 3 – Planning & organisational skills
This workshop aims to develop students ability to plan, prioritise and organise their thoughts and actions so that they can be more effective, have greater control over their work, feel less stressed and experience an increased sense of achievement. At the end of this workshop they will –
- Be able to more effectively manage their time & priorities
- Be able to evaluate and resolve competing priorities, distractions and time wasters
- Know how to clearly define the task at hand and break it down into relevant chunks
- Be able to generate an effective to do list for capturing daily/weekly responsibilities and tasks
Workshop 4 – Making an impact through presentation and networking
This workshop aims to help students improve the way they manage and present themselves day-to-day in the workplace, so that they can confidently and appropriately brand themselves, send the messages they want and leave a lasting positive impression. At the end of this workshop they will –
- Understand the concept of self-marketing and the common features of presentation and networking
- Have developed strategies to mitigate the challenges associated with delivery in different contexts
- Have learned how to deliver themselves in different settings
- Have practised introductory presentation and networking skills
- Be aware of how to maximise opportunities for delivery
Workshop 5: Self-awareness for lifelong learning
This workshop aims to build self-awareness and help students to assess, plan, and make decisions about their direction and learning and development so that they can more easily and effectively navigate the working world. At the end of this workshop they will –
- Have a greater appreciation of their individual values, motivators, goals and perceptions
- Have developed some personal SMART goals for future career and personal development
- Have developed new techniques for effective self reflection and planning

WorkReady Specialist™
Business Writing Skills (3 hours)
This workshop aims to increase your awareness of the principles of effective business communication and provides you with some tools and techniques for you to implement to improve your writing at work.
At the end of this workshop you will:
• Be able to identify and apply principles of business writing in composing and editing pieces such as emails, letters and reports.
• Be aware of tools and techniques to enhance your business writing.
• Be able to differentiate between effective and ineffective examples of business writing in practice
